Philosophers is a typeface for words that are meant to be seen as well as read. With dozens of uppercase ligatures and robust OpenType features, Philosophers creates beautiful wordmarks that balance expression and legibility.
Philosophers originated as a wordmark for my employer of nearly seven years, The Unemployed Philosophers Guild. By placing an emphasis on gesture over flourish and paying careful attention to proportions and letterspacing, the letterforms maintain legibility at small sizes while maintaining expression. After completing the wordmark, I continued to build out the typeface in my free time with additional ligatures and adjusted the proportions to sit more comfortably in a range of settings.
Development is ongoing; once I am satisfied that I have designed as many viable ligature combinations as possible and that any word from a language that uses the Latin script will sing in this typeface, I intend to release it for retail sales.
